Toyota Kluger Sun Shades (2008–2020)

Also known as: Highlander

The Kluger is a school-run and road-trip car, and the second row is where it shows. Wide rear doors and a lot of glass put the kids in child seats right in the path of the afternoon sun, and a big cabin left in a car park takes a long time to cool down.

These shades are cut to the Kluger's own windows, generation by generation, so they cover the whole opening rather than most of it. There are two sets:

  • 2008–2014 Kluger: front door pair, rear door pair, or the four-piece set for both rows.
  • 2014–2020 Kluger: the same door options plus the rear quarter windows and the boot/tailgate glass, sold singly or in combinations up to a complete all-windows set.

Most owners start with the rear pair for the kids, then add the fronts for parked-up shade.

Why Toyota Kluger owners choose custom shades

Shade where the child seats sit

The Kluger's rear door glass sits right beside the second row. A shade cut to the full opening keeps the sun off the child, not just off the lower half of the window.

A big cabin that heats up less

Covering the side glass while the car is parked means less heat soaking into seats and trim, so there is less to shift when everyone climbs in.

Cover the back of the car too

On the 2014–2020 Kluger you can add the rear quarter windows and the tailgate glass, useful if the boot carries a pram, shopping or a dog.

Nothing stuck to the glass

No suction cups and no adhesive. The shades sit in the window frame and come off in seconds.

Features

Measured on the vehicle

Each pattern is taken from a real Kluger, produced at the workshop, fitted back to the car and adjusted until it sits flush in the frame. The finished, fitted car is what gets photographed.

Separate patterns per generation

The 2008–2014 and 2014–2020 Klugers have different window shapes, so each has its own set rather than one compromise panel.

100% black polyester mesh

Dense enough to cut glare, UV and cabin heat, open enough to see out of from inside. From outside it reads like darker glass.

Buy only the windows you need

Pairs from $49.99, a four-piece door set for both rows, and on the later car quarter, boot and complete-set combinations.

Fitment for your Toyota Kluger

We make Kluger shades for two generations: 2008–2014 and 2014–2020. The 2008–2014 set covers the four door windows only; the 2014–2020 set adds the rear quarter windows and the boot/tailgate glass. A 2014 build can sit either side of the changeover, so check the build plate on the door jamb rather than the year on the rego papers, or send us the VIN and we will confirm. The current Kluger (2021 on) is not covered by either set. The Kluger is sold as the Highlander overseas; these are the same cars for the years listed.

Covers: Front door windows (2 pcs), Rear door windows (2 pcs), Rear quarter windows (2014–2020), Boot / tailgate window (2014–2020).

Installation

  1. Wipe the window frame clean so the shade seats evenly.
  2. Offer the shade up to the opening, top edge first.
  3. Work around the frame, pressing the edge in until it sits flush with no gaps.
  4. Store the shades flat when they are off the car so the edges stay true.

Toyota Kluger sun shade FAQs

Which Kluger set do I need?
Go by the build date, not the model year. 2008–2014 builds take the earlier set and 2014–2020 builds the later one. If yours is a 2014, check the build plate on the door jamb or send us the VIN.
Do you make shades for the 2021-on Kluger?
Not at the moment. The two sets on this page cover 2008–2014 and 2014–2020 only.
Will they work if my windows are already tinted?
Yes. The shades sit in the window frame, not on the glass, so film or factory privacy glass makes no difference to the fit. Tint works on the glass and the mesh covers the opening, so the two together cut more heat and glare than either alone.
Are the front-door shades meant to stay on while I drive?
No. The front pair is for when the car is parked, to keep the sun off the dash, seats and steering wheel. Take the front shades off before you drive. The rear-door shades are the ones that look after passengers on the trip.
