Volkswagen Golf Sun Shades (Mk6 and Mk8)
Also known as: Golf Mk6, Golf Mk8
The Golf is one of the most familiar hatches on Australian roads, and like any small car it heats up quickly: less cabin air for the same amount of glass. Shades on the door windows keep the sun off parked-up seats and give rear passengers relief from side-on glare.
Golf window shapes change from one generation to the next, so these are cut per generation. We currently make sets for two:
- Mk6 Golf (2008–2012)
- Mk8 Golf (2019–2026)
Each comes as a front door pair, a rear door pair, or the four-piece set for both rows. The rear pair suits families with child seats; the four-piece set does the most for parked-up temperatures.

Why Volkswagen Golf owners choose custom shades
A small cabin cools faster when it heats less
Keeping the sun off the glass while the Golf is parked means less heat in the seats and trim when you get back in.
Cut to the Golf's door glass
A pattern taken from the car itself follows the frame all the way round, instead of a rectangle that gaps at the corners.
Relief for the back seat
Rear passengers and child seats sit right against the door glass in a hatch. The rear pair covers the full opening.
No suction cups, no adhesive
The shades sit in the window frame, go on in seconds and leave nothing behind when they come off.
Features
Measured on the vehicle
Each pattern is taken from a real Golf, produced at the workshop, fitted back to the car and adjusted until it sits flush in the frame. The finished, fitted car is what gets photographed.
One set per generation
The Mk6 and Mk8 have their own patterns, because the door glass is not the same shape.
100% black polyester mesh
Dense enough to cut glare, UV and cabin heat, open enough to see out of from inside. From outside it reads like darker glass.
Three ways to buy
Front door pair from $49.99, rear door pair, or the four-piece set covering both rows.
Fitment for your Volkswagen Golf
We make Golf shades for the Mk6 (2008–2012) and the Mk8 (2019–2026) hatch. The Mk7 Golf (roughly 2013–2020) is not covered at the moment, and nor are the wagon or other body styles. The Mk8 reached Australia in 2021, so a locally delivered 2019 or 2020 Golf is a Mk7 and these sets will not fit it. The sets cover the four door windows only. If your build date sits near a changeover, check the build plate on the door jamb or send us the VIN before ordering.
Covers: Front door windows (2 pcs), Rear door windows (2 pcs), Front and rear door windows (4 pcs).
Installation
- Wipe the window frame clean so the shade seats evenly.
- Offer the shade up to the opening, top edge first.
- Work around the frame, pressing the edge in until it sits flush with no gaps.
- Store the shades flat when they are off the car so the edges stay true.
Volkswagen Golf sun shade FAQs
- Do you make shades for the Mk7 Golf?
- Not at the moment. The sets on this page are for the Mk6 (2008–2012) and Mk8 (2019–2026) hatch only.
- How do I tell which Golf I have?
- The build plate on the door jamb gives the build date, which is more reliable than the year on the rego papers. If in doubt, send us the VIN and we will confirm the right set.
- Will they work if my windows are already tinted?
- Yes. The shades sit in the window frame, not on the glass, so film or factory privacy glass makes no difference to the fit. Tint works on the glass and the mesh covers the opening, so the two together cut more heat and glare than either alone.
- Are the front-door shades meant to stay on while I drive?
- No. The front pair is for when the car is parked, to keep the sun off the dash, seats and steering wheel. Take the front shades off before you drive. The rear-door shades are the ones that look after passengers on the trip.
