BYD Sealion 7 Sun Shades

The Sealion 7 is a big piece of glass on wheels. The roofline drops away towards the tailgate, which makes the rear door windows deep rather than tall, and anyone in the second row sits square against them. Park it outside on an Australian afternoon and that is where the heat lands first. Shades cut to those door openings take the direct sun and most of the glare off the back seat before the climate system has to deal with it — which on an electric SUV means less of the battery spent cooling a car that is already hot. The Sealion 7 is recent enough here that universal shades have no pattern to work from, so these are cut to the Sealion 7's own door glass rather than scaled down from a larger SUV.

Why BYD Sealion 7 owners choose custom shades

Less heat for the battery to undo

Pre-conditioning a hot cabin is work the battery pays for. A car that starts cooler needs a shorter run of air conditioning to become comfortable, and that matters most on the short trips where the climate system never quite gets ahead.

Rear passengers out of the direct sun

The second-row glass on the Sealion 7 is deep, so a child seat or a passenger sits right in the afternoon sun. The rear panels cover the full door opening rather than stopping partway up, which is exactly where a universal shade leaves a bare strip at head height.

Nothing stuck to the glass

No suction cups to let go once the glass warms up, and no adhesive anywhere near the trim. The shades go on and come off in seconds and store flat under the boot floor between trips.

See out, not in

The mesh is dense enough to cut glare and UV while staying see-through from the inside. From outside it reads as tinted glass, which is useful when the Sealion 7 is parked with gear in the back.

Features

Cut to Sealion 7 door glass

Each panel is patterned to the Sealion 7's own door openings so it sits flush in the frame. The rear doors have a strong rising kick along the bottom edge of the glass, and that line is the reason an approximate shade looks wrong on this car and a cut-to-pattern one does not.

Sits in the frame, not on the window

The panel seats in the door surround rather than against the glass. Nothing leaves a ring, nothing loses grip as the car heats up, and nothing has to be peeled off when you want it gone.

Works with the window down

Because the shade holds in the frame, you can drop the window and leave it in place — still blocking sun, and now also dust and insects.

Mesh, not film

100% black polyester mesh. If your Sealion 7 already has factory tint these layer over it; if it does not, the shades do the job on their own without committing you to film on the side glass.

Fitment for your BYD Sealion 7

Cut for the BYD Sealion 7, 2025 onwards. The set covers the four opening door windows and can be bought as the front pair, the rear pair, or all four together. A shade for the panoramic glass roof is not currently available to order, so the door set is the one to buy for now. If yours is a later model-year update, send through the build plate details before ordering and we will confirm nothing has changed in the glass.

Covers: Front door windows (2 pcs), Rear door windows (2 pcs), Front and rear door windows (4 pcs).

Installation

  1. Wipe the door frame down so the shade seats cleanly against the rubber.
  2. Hold the panel to the top of the door opening first and let it find the frame.
  3. Work down each side, pressing the edge in so it sits flat rather than bowed.
  4. Check the front panels leave your mirror view clear before you drive off.

BYD Sealion 7 sun shade FAQs

Do sun shades actually help an EV's range?
Indirectly, and most on short trips. They do not change how far the battery can drive the car — they reduce how much energy the climate system spends recovering from a hot park. The shorter the trip, the bigger a share of the battery that cooling run represents, so the difference shows up on school runs and commutes rather than on a long highway leg.
Are these legal to use while driving in Australia?
On the rear door windows, yes, in every state and territory. On the front doors the driver has to keep a clear view of the road and both side mirrors, so the front panels are cut short of the mirror line. Nothing goes over the windscreen while the car is moving.
Will they fit if my Sealion 7 has aftermarket tint?
Yes. The shades sit in the door frame and never touch the glass, so tint makes no difference to the fit. The two work together — tint handles the glass, the mesh handles the opening.
Do you make a shade for the Sealion 7's glass roof?
Not one you can order at the moment. The door shades are the set available for this car.
How do these compare to a universal shade from the servo?
A universal shade is sized to an average window, so on the Sealion 7's deep rear glass it leaves gaps at the corners and usually relies on suction cups that give up in summer heat. These are cut to the car's own openings and hold in the frame, which is the whole difference in both looks and how long they last.
