Geely EX5 Sun Shades

Keeping an electric SUV cool is worth more than comfort alone. Every minute the air conditioning spends pulling a parked EX5 back down from 50-plus degrees is range you do not get to drive, and on a Geely EX5 there is a lot of glass helping the cabin heat up - tall door windows front and rear, plus a fixed panoramic roof over both rows. Shades cut to those exact openings stop most of the heat and glare before it arrives, so the car starts cooler and the battery is not asked to make up the difference. The EX5 is new enough in Australia that generic shades have nothing to go on, which is why these were measured on the car itself rather than scaled from a similar SUV.

Why Geely EX5 owners choose custom shades

Less heat for the battery to undo

A cabin that starts 15 degrees cooler needs a shorter, gentler run of air conditioning to become comfortable. On an electric SUV that is the difference between arriving with the range you expected and arriving short of it, particularly on short trips where the climate system never gets ahead.

The panoramic roof covered too

The EX5's fixed glass roof sits directly above both rows and radiates heat downwards all day. The insulated roof panel is a different build to the mesh window shades - reflective core, shaped to the opening - and it is the single biggest change you can make to how the car feels after a day in an open car park.

Rear passengers out of direct sun

The second-row door glass on the EX5 is deep, so a child seat or a passenger sits square in the afternoon sun. The rear shades cover the full door opening rather than stopping partway up, which is where universal shades leave a strip of bare glass exactly at head height.

See out, not in

The black mesh is dense enough to cut glare and UV while staying see-through from inside. From outside the car it reads as tinted glass, which is useful when the EX5 is parked with gear in the back.

Features

Measured on the car, not estimated

Each panel is taken from the vehicle itself, produced, refitted and adjusted until it sits flush. The EX5's door frames have a pronounced curve along the top edge, and that curve is the reason an approximate shade looks wrong and a measured one does not.

Magnetic, no suction cups

The shades hold to the steel door surround. Nothing touches the glass, so there is nothing to leave a ring, nothing to lose grip as the car warms up, and nothing stuck to the window when you want it off.

Works with the window down

Because the panel sits in the frame rather than on the glass, you can drop the window and keep the shade in place - still blocking sun, and now also dust and insects.

Mesh, not film

100% black polyester mesh. If the EX5 already has factory tint these layer on top of it; if it does not, the shades on their own do the work without committing you to film on the side glass.

Fitment for your Geely EX5

Cut for the Australian-delivered Geely EX5. The door-window set covers the four opening windows; the roof panel is ordered separately and is shaped for the EX5's fixed panoramic glass rather than a sliding sunroof. If your EX5 is a later model-year update, send us the build plate details before ordering and we will confirm nothing has changed in the glass.

Covers: Front door windows (2 pcs), Rear door windows (2 pcs), Front and rear door windows (4 pcs), Panoramic roof panel (2 pcs).

Installation

  1. Wipe the door frame down - the magnets seat better on a clean surface.
  2. Hold the panel to the top of the door opening first and let the magnets take it.
  3. Work down each side, pressing the edge into the frame so it sits flat against the rubber.
  4. Check the front-door panels leave your mirror view clear before driving off.
  5. For the roof panel, start at the front edge of the glass and press rearwards.

Geely EX5 sun shade FAQs

Do shades really help an EV's range?
Indirectly, and most on short trips. Shades do not change how far the battery can drive the car; they reduce how much energy the climate system spends recovering from a hot park. The shorter the trip, the larger a share of the battery that cooling run represents, so the saving is most noticeable on school runs and commutes rather than on a long highway leg.
Are these legal to use while driving in Australia?
On the rear door windows, yes, in every state and territory. On the front doors the driver must retain a clear view of the road and both side mirrors, so the front panels are cut short of the mirror line. Nothing goes over the windscreen while the car is moving.
Will they fit if my EX5 has aftermarket tint?
Yes. The shades hold to the metal door frame and never touch the glass, so tint makes no difference to the fit. The two work together - tint handles the glass, the mesh handles the opening.
Is the roof panel the same product as the window shades?
No. The window shades are a single-layer mesh you can see through. The roof panel is an insulated, reflective build, because roof glass sits above your head and radiates heat downwards all day rather than sideways. It also takes the load off the factory blind.
What if the EX5 is not on your list when I check?
Send through the make, model and build-plate details. The EX5 is a recent arrival here and we pattern new vehicles to order, so a model-year variation we have not seen yet is a question of confirming measurements rather than a dead end.
