BMW Window Shades Australia: All 19 Fits, and Why You Need Your Chassis Code
BMW is the make where the model name on the boot lid tells you the least. A 320i can be four different cars. An X5 can be three. A window shade is cut to a specific piece of glass, so on this make the useful question is not "what model" but "what chassis code".
Auto Sunshades cuts 19 BMWs, all from $49.99 a set. This page maps every one of them to a code and a year range, and names the two windows where nothing is cut.
The 3-series: four cuts and one overlapping year
The 3-series is our most-split BMW, and the split is by generation code rather than by badge.
| Listing | Chassis | Years | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| 325i E46 | E46 | single cut, no year split | /products/bmw-325i-e46 |
| E90 320i | E90 | 2005–2011 | /products/bmw-e90-320i-2005-2011 |
| F30 320i | F30 | 2012–2019 | /products/bmw-f30-320i-2012-2019 |
| 320i G20 | G20 | 2019–2025 | /products/bmw-320i-g20-2019-2025 |
2019 appears in both the F30 and the G20 listing, and that is not a rounding error. The changeover happened during that build year, so a 2019-plate 3-series can be either car, and the two have different rear door and C-pillar glass. Do not guess from the year. The compliance plate, the build date, or a VIN decoder will give you the code in under a minute, and that is the thing to order on.
Note also that these listings are named after one variant — 320i, or 325i for the E46 — the way several of our European listings are. The cut is taken from a body, not an engine, so if your badge is a different number in the same generation, open the product page and check its fitment note before ordering rather than assuming.
The 5-series and 7-series
| Listing | Years | Product |
|---|---|---|
| 520i | 2006–2009 | /products/bmw-520i-2006-2009 |
| 520i | 2010–2017 | /products/bmw-520i-2010-2017 |
| 730i | single cut, no year split | /products/bmw-730i |
The two 520i cuts land either side of the 2010 generation change. There is no 5-series cut after 2017 — the dated listings stop there, so a car built from 2018 on is not covered.
X5 and X6: two real gaps
These are the two SUVs where the catalogue has a hole in the middle, and it is worth knowing before you order rather than after.
| Listing | Years | Product |
|---|---|---|
| X5 | 2007–2013 | /products/bmw-x5-2007-2013 |
| X5 | 2019–2026 | /products/bmw-x5-2019-2026 |
| X6 E71 | 2008–2014 | /products/bmw-x6-e71-2008-2014 |
| X6 | 2019–2026 | /products/bmw-x6-2019-2026 |
There is no X5 cut for 2014 to 2018, and no X6 cut for 2015 to 2018. Both of those generations are common on the Australian used market, and both have door glass that differs enough from the generation either side that an adjacent set is not a workaround. If your X5 is a 2016, nothing on this list fits it, and we would rather say so here than have you find out at the kerb.
The two ends we do cut are the 2007–2013 car and the 2019-on car. The X5 vehicle page at /sun-shades/bmw-x5 shows the fitment detail for both.

The rest of the X range
| Listing | Years | Vehicle page | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| X1 | 2023–2026 | /sun-shades/bmw-x1 | /products/bmw-x1-2023-2026 |
| X2 | 2018–2023 | — | /products/bmw-x2-2018-2023 |
| X3 | 2018–2024 | /sun-shades/bmw-x3 | /products/bmw-x3-2018-2024 |
| X4 | 2019–2025 | /sun-shades/bmw-x4 | /products/bmw-x4-2019-2025 |
| X7 | 2019–2026 | — | /products/bmw-x7-2019-2026 |
The pattern here is that the X range coverage is current-generation only, and it is worth being blunt about what that excludes:
- The X1 cut starts at 2023, which is the current generation. Earlier X1s are not covered.
- The X3 cut is 2018–2024. Earlier X3s are not covered, and neither is anything built from 2025.
- The X4 starts at 2019 and the X7 at 2019 — both are the current shape only.
If you are shopping an older X1 or X3, that is a genuine reason to look elsewhere for this specific car, and we would say the same in the shop. Our alternatives round-up covers who else cuts what in Australia.
The 1-series and the two 2-series Tourers
| Listing | Aliases | Product |
|---|---|---|
| 118i | /products/bmw-118i | |
| 218i 5 seats | Active Tourer | /products/bmw-218i-5-seats |
| 218i 7 seats | Gran Tourer | /products/bmw-218i-7-seats |
These three are single cuts with no year split, so check the product page against your build rather than assuming a generation boundary exists.
The two 218i listings are the trap here. They are not seating options on one product — they are two different bodies. The 5-seat listing is the Active Tourer; the 7-seat is the longer Gran Tourer, and the extra length shows up as a third row and an additional side window behind the rear door. Order the 5-seat set for a Gran Tourer and you will be short the pieces that cover the back of the cabin, which is exactly where the kids are sitting.
What is in a set, and what is not
Every set here is cut for openable and fixed side glass and the rear: front doors, rear doors, the boot or tailgate glass, third-row quarter windows where the vehicle has them, and the small fixed port window behind the rear door. There is no windscreen piece in any BMW set on this page. Windscreen shades are a different product category entirely — we cover what actually works there separately.
For a European car in an Australian summer the rear door and port glass matter more than most buyers expect, because factory privacy glass is a darker tint, not a UV-rated film. It changes what people outside can see; it is not the same thing as blocking what reaches a back-seat passenger. Our UV guide explains the difference.
Ordering in one minute
- Find your chassis code — VIN decoder, service book, or the build plate.
- Match it to the table above, not to the badge on the boot.
- If you are a 2019 3-series, decide F30 or G20 before you order.
- If you are a 2014–2018 X5 or a 2015–2018 X6, stop — we do not have a cut for you.
Every BMW set on this page is from $49.99. If you want the wider comparison of magnetic custom-fit sets against the alternatives, start here.
