MG ZS and HS Sun Shades: What Fits, by Model

Auto Sunshades Team

The ZS and the HS are the two MG SUVs we know best. Both come from our manufacturer's own pattern sheet, both have workshop photos of the shades fitted, and both offer the same five windows: two front doors, two rear doors and the tailgate glass. What differs is how sure we are about the newest version of each car, and that's what this page is mostly about.

The Chinese brands overview lists every MG we cut, plus the BYD, Omoda and GWM sets. This page goes into the two MG SUVs in more detail.

What we list

Prices are the same on both cars. The front pair is $49.99, the rear pair $59.99, and all four doors $99.99. The tailgate panel on its own is $59.99. Rear doors plus tailgate is $108.99, front doors plus tailgate is $99.99, and every window on the car is $154.99.

Both listings record a magnetic mount. The shade has magnets sewn into its border and sits on the steel of the door frame, not on the glass, so the window still winds down behind it. They hold in normal driving. Take them off before a run at highway speed, because the air moving past an open window at 100 km/h will pull at the mesh.

Neither listing has a quarter-glass option, so the choice is simple: doors, tailgate, or both.

MG ZS

The ZS listing covers 2017 to 2024. That's the small SUV that has been one of MG's big sellers here since it arrived, including the ZST facelift and the ZS EV. All three share the same doors, so one listing does the lot. If your car is a ZST, order the ZS set. If it's a ZS EV of that era, same again.

Our workshop photos for the ZS are real fitted shots: a black car and a white car, front and rear doors, with the shade sitting inside the door frame and the black border following the line of the glass. The ZS rear door glass is long and fairly shallow, and it rounds off into a tight corner at the back. That corner is where a universal panel leaves a gap. The cut follows it.

Our most recent ZS order was a rear door pair, going to Queensland in September. That's typical of the car. The ZS back seat is narrow enough that a child seat sits hard against the door glass, and the rear pair is the piece that does the most work.

If you also carry a pram or a dog in the back, the tailgate panel is worth a look. On a small SUV the cargo bay sits right behind the rear seat, so afternoon sun through the tailgate lands on whatever is back there.

The newer ZS. MG has since released a newer ZS with a different body. Our listing stops at 2024 and we haven't checked our pattern against the later car. If your ZS is a 2025 build or later, send us a photo of a rear door, open, with the glass and the trim in view, plus the build month from the compliance plate. We'll tell you whether the set fits before you pay for it. The generation guide shows where to find the build month.

MG HS

The HS is the bigger of the two, a mid-size SUV with long rear doors and a wide tailgate. The listing has no year range on it, and that matters a bit more here than on the ZS.

Our workshop photos for the HS show two fitted cars, a black one and a red one with red door trim. The door cards on the two look different from each other, and we haven't confirmed whether that's two trim levels or two versions of the car.

The main image on the HS product page is a stock picture of the newer HS with the slimmer front end. We haven't fitted our set to that car ourselves. So:

  • Earlier HS, with a door like the ones in the listing photos: order straight from the listing.
  • Newer HS, or a door trim that doesn't match the listing photos: send us a rear door photo and the build month first. If the doors have changed shape, we'll tell you so rather than ship a set that leaves gaps.

If you're not sure which one you've got, the build month and a photo of the rear door will settle it.

On the HS the rear door glass is long and tapers toward the back. A child seat behind either front seat sits right against it, and that's the window most HS owners start with. The tailgate panel is the second most useful piece, mostly for people who run a dog crate in the back.

Fitting them

There are no tools and no clips to install. Open the door, line the top edge of the shade up with the top of the frame, and let the magnets find the steel. Then work down each side so the border sits flat all the way round. If one corner sits proud, it's usually because the shade is in upside down or in the wrong door. Each piece is cut for its own side, so the left rear won't sit properly in the right rear door.

Taking them off is the same in reverse: lift a bottom corner and peel. When they're not in use they lie flat and slide into a door pocket or the seat-back pocket.

The front pair

On both cars, the front door shades are for when the car is parked. The windows beside the driver and front passenger have to be clear while you're driving, in every state and territory, so take the fronts out before you set off. The rear doors and the tailgate panel can generally stay in. The road rules post goes through each position.

The front pair still earns its place. Leaving the car in a shopping centre car park with all four doors covered keeps the direct sun off the seats and the steering wheel, and the fronts fold flat into the door pocket when you get back in.

Also listed for MG

We also cut the MG5 2022 to 2025 and the MG RX5. There's no MG4 or MG3 set yet. The MG brand page collects every MG listing in one place, and the ZS and HS each have a model page.

There are sunroof panels listed for the ZS and HS as well, but sunroof orders are paused across the store for now.

Ordering

  1. ZS, ZST or ZS EV built 2017 to 2024: order from the listing. The rear pair is where most people start.
  2. Earlier HS with a door that matches the listing photos: order from the listing. Add the tailgate if the cargo area carries a pet or a pram.
  3. ZS built 2025 or later, the newer HS, or any HS you're unsure about: send us a rear door photo and the build month first.

Not sure which windows to cover? The guide to picking positions goes through it seat by seat. If a set doesn't suit, you have 30 days to send it back under our returns policy.
