Geely EX5 and Coolray Sun Shades

Auto Sunshades Team

Geely is still a new badge in most Australian driveways, and the accessory shelves haven't caught up. Ask at a parts store for EX5 window shades and you'll be handed a universal panel cut for something else. We list four Geely sets. Two of them, the EX5 and the Coolray, are the ones people actually ask us about, and they're not at the same stage. This page explains the difference.

The Chinese brands overview has every BYD, MG, Omoda and GWM set we cut. This page sticks to the Geelys.

Every Geely set is priced the same way. The front pair is $49.99, the rear pair $59.99, and all four doors together $99.99. There's no tailgate or quarter-glass panel on any of the Geely listings yet. Our manufacturer's pattern for these cars covers the four door windows only, so that's what we sell.

None of the listings has a year range, so the listing isn't split by build year. On the EX5 we have fitted photos to compare against. The Coolray is the one to read carefully.

The shades hold in normal driving, around town and on the commute. Take them off before a run at highway speed, because the air rushing past at 100 km/h pulls at the mesh and can lift a shade off the frame.

Geely EX5

The EX5 is the Geely we sell most. It's an electric mid-size SUV with tall door glass front and rear, and it gets a lot of sun through the side windows. Our pattern for it comes from the manufacturer's sheet, and we have photos of the shades fitted: rear doors and front doors, on a car with light grey door trim. The cover photo on this page is one of them.

Recent EX5 orders give a fair picture of what owners go for. Two rear pairs went out in October, one to New South Wales and one to South Australia, and a front pair went to Western Australia in September. Most people start at the back. The EX5 rear door glass runs a long way back and stays tall to the end, so a child seat behind either front seat sits right in the sun on a long drive. The rear pair covers that.

The front pair is mostly for parking. In an EV the cabin has to be cooled from the battery, so many owners like the car to start a little cooler when they come back to it. Covering all four doors in a car park keeps direct sun off the seats and the wheel. We don't have a figure for how much range that saves you, and we wouldn't trust one that came without a proper test behind it.

The EX5 set is out of stock at the moment and is being made to order, so allow a little longer for delivery than for a car we hold on the shelf.

If you'd like a second opinion before ordering, compare your rear door with the photos on the listing, or send us a photo of it and we'll check it for you.

Geely Coolray

The Coolray is Geely's small SUV, sold in China as the Binyue. The listing covers the four door windows, the same as the EX5.

Here's where it stands. The pattern comes from our manufacturer's sheet, but we don't have a single workshop photo of a fitted Coolray. The image on the product page right now is a generic picture, and the car in it isn't a Coolray. So we can't show you the shade on your car, and we'd rather check before we cut.

Before ordering a Coolray set, send us:

  • a photo of a rear door, opened, with the whole glass and the door trim in view
  • the build month from the compliance plate

The generation guide shows where to find the build month. We'll compare your door against the pattern and tell you whether it fits. If it doesn't, we'll say so.

The Coolray is also made to order, so the same delivery note applies as for the EX5.

Also listed

The Geely EX2 is the small electric hatch. That set was made and fitted on an EX2, and the listing has the workshop photos to show it, door by door. It records a magnetic mount, so the shade sits on the steel of the door frame rather than on the glass. Like the EX5 and Coolray, it's out of stock right now and made to order.

The Geely Monjaro, also sold as the Xingyue L, is a large SUV. We list it for the cars that turn up here, and it has real fitted photos on the listing too. If you have one, the four-door set is what we cut.

The Geely brand page collects all four listings, and the EX5 and Coolray each have a model page.

The front pair

On every Geely, the front door shades are for when the car is parked. The windows beside the driver and the front passenger have to stay clear while you're driving, in every state and territory, so take the fronts off before you set off. The rear door shades can generally stay on. The road rules post goes through each position in detail.

Taking the fronts off takes seconds. Lift a bottom corner and peel the shade away from the frame, then lay it flat in the door pocket or under a seat until you park again.

Ordering

  1. EX5: order from the listing. The rear pair is the usual start, and the front pair is worth adding if the car spends its days in an open car park.
  2. Coolray: send us a rear door photo and the build month first, and we'll confirm the fit before you pay.
  3. EX2 or Monjaro: order from the listing. The EX2 is made to order, so allow extra time.

If you're unsure which windows matter for your family, the guide to picking positions works through it seat by seat. If your Geely isn't on the list at all, tell us. The measuring app can get you a quote. And if a set doesn't suit, you have 30 days to send it back under our returns policy.
