Mitsubishi Outlander and ASX Sun Shades: What Fits
The most recent Outlander order we shipped went to New South Wales in early October, for a 2021 ZL wagon. The owner took the rear doors and the third-row windows together, a four-piece set at $99.99. The one before it went to South Australia for a 2017 car, rear doors only. Those two orders show the two sensible ways to shade this car, and the difference between them is the small window behind each rear door.
This post covers the one Outlander body we cut, what each piece covers, and the ASX, where our listing is much thinner and we would like you to check with us first. The Mitsubishi fitment list has every other Mitsubishi we cut, including the Triton and both Pajeros.

Which Outlander we cut
Our Outlander listing is cut for the third-generation body, which Mitsubishi Australia sold from late 2012 until the all-new Outlander arrived in late 2021. Here it went through three series codes: ZJ at launch, then ZK and ZL as the front end was restyled. The restyles changed the nose, and the door glass stayed the same, so one set covers all three.
| What you have | Series | Build years | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Third-generation Outlander | ZJ, ZK, ZL | 2012–2021 | Outlander 2012–2021 |
| Second-generation Outlander | before ZJ | up to 2012 | Not cut |
| Fourth-generation Outlander | ZM | late 2021 on | Not cut |
Two years need a check. A 2012 car can be the outgoing model or an early ZJ, and a 2021 car can be a late ZL or one of the first new-shape cars. The series code is on the compliance plate. The October buyer typed "ZL MY21" into the vehicle field at checkout, which settled it before we packed anything. If you are not sure where to look, the generation guide shows the plate.
The newer Outlander is a different shape all round, and the 2012–2021 set will not fit it. We do not cut it yet. The Outlander page lists the same product if you want to browse from there.
Our product record lists this Outlander set as a rubber mount, not a magnetic one.
The pieces, and what each one covers
The Outlander has more separate pieces than most cars we cut. The listing sells them one at a time and in combinations:
| Piece or combination | Price |
|---|---|
| Front door pair | $49.99 |
| Rear door pair | $59.99 |
| Third-row side windows (pair) | $49.99 |
| Tailgate window | $59.99 |
| All four doors | $99.99 |
| Rear doors + third-row windows | $99.99 |
| Rear doors + tailgate | $108.99 |
| Rear doors + third-row windows + tailgate | $154.99 |
| All four doors + third-row windows | $145.99 |
| All four doors + tailgate | $154.99 |
| Every window | $199.99 |
The listing also has front doors with the third-row windows, front doors with the tailgate, and the third-row windows with the tailgate, for anyone building an odd combination. At the time of writing, every option that includes the tailgate panel is made to order rather than on the shelf.
The third-row windows are real third-row glass
On several five-seat cars we sell, the "Third-Row Side Windows" option is a leftover name for a small quarter window behind the rear door. On the Outlander it means what it says. Behind each rear door there is a fixed pane, and on seven-seat versions it sits right beside the third-row seats. Our workshop photo below was taken from the cargo area, with a third-row headrest in the foreground and the shade fitted over that pane.

The shape matters for the shade. The pane is a rounded triangle with a long, sweeping lower edge, and the shade is cut to follow that curve. A rectangle trimmed down would leave gaps at both ends.
On a five-seat Outlander the same glass is there; it just sits beside the cargo area instead of a seat. It is still worth covering if a dog travels in the back, because that pane and the tailgate are the only glass around the load space.
If you use the third row, the October buyer's combination is the one we would point you to: rear doors plus third-row windows at $99.99. That covers every side window behind the front seats. If the back is mostly for a dog or the shopping, rear doors plus the tailgate at $108.99 makes more sense. With every seat in use and the car parked outside a lot, the complete set at $199.99 covers all the glass we cut for this car.
The third-row and quarter-window guide compares the Outlander with the other seven-seaters where we cut that glass.
Front doors and the road rules
The front pair is $49.99 and is the piece to use while the car is parked, especially if it sits in an open car park at work. Take the fronts down before you drive. Australian road rules expect the driver to have a clear view through the front side windows, and our guide to the shade laws goes through them. The rear door, third-row and tailgate shades can stay up while you are moving, which is why most buyers start behind the front seats. The guide to which windows to shade explains that choice in more detail.
The ASX: check with us first
The ASX is listed under the name Outlander Sport, which is what the same small SUV is called in North America, with RVR (its Japanese name) as another alias. It is a separate, smaller car from the Outlander, and the two sets are not related. This is the ASX listing, and the ASX page points to it.
We want to be straight about how much we know here. The ASX listing covers the four doors only: the front pair at $49.99, the rear pair at $59.99 and the four doors together at $99.99. There is no tailgate piece. Unlike the Outlander, it does not yet carry a confirmed build-year range, we have no workshop photo of it on a car, and every piece is made to order.
So before ordering ASX shades, send us your build year and a photo of a rear door taken from outside with the door shut. We will confirm the cut against your car. That is a quick job for us, and it saves you waiting on a made-to-order set that might not sit right.
Mitsubishis we do not cover on this page
- The fourth-generation Outlander, late 2021 on. No cut yet.
- The Outlander before the ZJ. No cut.
- The Eclipse Cross. We have no listing for it.
If your car is not cut, the measuring app is the way to get a quote. For a 2012 or 2021 Outlander, send the series code from the plate. For an ASX, send the build year and the rear door photo, and we will tell you whether the set fits before you pay for it.
