Mazda CX-9 and CX-8 Sun Shades: Door Sets and Fit Checks
The only CX-8 order in our records came from Victoria in August, and it was for the rear pair on its own. That is a sensible place to start on a seven-seater. The second row is where the child seats go, and those two doors take the afternoon sun on any trip that heads west.
We have one listing for each of Mazda's big seven-seaters, the CX-8 and the CX-9. Both are door sets. Neither has a third-row or tailgate piece listed yet. The CX-9 set is cut for the first-generation car, so the year matters more than usual.

What we cut for the CX-8 and CX-9
| Car | Years on the listing | Windows we cut | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mazda CX-8 | No year range set on the listing | Front doors, rear doors | CX-8 |
| Mazda CX-9 (TB, first generation) | 2007–2015 | Front doors, rear doors | CX-9 TB 2007–2015 |
| Mazda CX-9 (second generation) | 2016 on | Not cut | None |
| Mazda CX-90, CX-60 | Not cut | None |
Prices are the same on both:
| Set | Price |
|---|---|
| Front doors (2 pieces) | $49.99 |
| Rear doors (2 pieces) | $59.99 |
| Front and rear doors (4 pieces) | $99.99 |
The CX-8 page and the CX-9 page carry the same listings. Go by the product listing for which windows are sold. It is the up-to-date list.
The third row isn't listed yet
This is the question we get most on seven-seaters, so here it is up front. On both of these cars we sell the four doors and nothing behind them. There is no piece listed for the fixed glass beside the third row and none for the tailgate.
That matters more on a CX-8 or CX-9 than on a five-seater. The kids in the very back sit right against that fixed pane, it doesn't wind down, and no universal shade fits its shape. We wrote a separate piece on third-row and quarter glass that explains why that pane needs its own pattern.
If you have a CX-8 and the third row gets used most days, get in touch before you order and ask where those pieces stand. For the CX-9 we don't have a pattern for the glass behind the rear doors, and the measuring app is how we would quote it. Either way, don't buy the doors expecting the back windows to be included. They aren't.
If the third row is folded flat most of the time and the back of the car is used for the pram and the shopping, the door sets are all you need.
CX-8: start with the rear pair
The CX-8 listing is the simpler of the two. The workshop photos show a CX-8 with the shades fitted in all four doors, and the rear-door shade covers the whole window inside the frame.

Two things to know about the listing itself. First, it has no build years set, so it doesn't tell you on its face which CX-8s it covers. Second, the photos were taken on a CX-8 outside Australia. Mazda sold the CX-8 in several markets, and trim and badging vary between them, so go by the shape of the door and the glass, not the colour of the trim. If your CX-8 is an early or a late build and you want to be sure, send us your build date from the compliance plate and a photo of an open rear door before you order.
As for which set: the Victorian order above is the pattern we would suggest for most families. Rear pair first at $59.99. Add the fronts later if you want the car shaded when it sits in a car park, or take all four at $99.99 if you already know you will.
CX-9: the first-generation car only
Our CX-9 set is cut for the first-generation TB CX-9, the one sold here from 2007 to 2015. The workshop photos on the listing are that car, with its narrower grille, the older tail lights and the silver strip across the door trim.

The second-generation CX-9 arrived in 2016 with a new body, and its door glass is a different shape. We don't cut that one yet, so this set won't sit right on a 2016-on car. If you have one, the measuring app is how we would quote it.
Cars built late in 2015 or early in 2016 are where people get caught, because the model year on the paperwork and the body don't always line up. Check the build date on the compliance plate, usually on the driver's door jamb. Our guide to build dates and generations shows where to look, and if you are still unsure, send us that date and a photo of an open rear door before you order.
If a set doesn't sit the way it should, you have 30 days to send it back under our returns policy.
CX-90 and CX-60
We don't cut either of these at the moment. The CX-60 is a five-seater in any case. If you have a CX-90 and want a quote, the measuring app is how we work out a car we haven't cut yet.
Fitting and driving
The listing page shows how the shades fit into each door. They go in and come out in a few seconds.
The rear door shades can stay in while you drive. The shades hold in normal driving, but take them out before a run on the highway. Front door shades are for when the car is parked. They are cut back from the mirror, but the front side windows have to be kept clear while the car is moving. Our guide to whether car sun shades are legal sets out the rules state by state.
Which windows first
For most families with a CX-8 or CX-9 it goes like this:
- Kids in the second row only: the rear pair.
- Car parked outside at work or at the shops all day: all four doors, and the fronts go in only once you've parked.
- Kids in the third row every day: ask us about the third-row glass before you order anything.
Our guide to choosing which windows to cover goes through the reasoning in more detail.
If you are coming from a smaller Mazda, the CX-5 guide covers a car where we do list the glass behind the rear doors on the 2017–2025 model. The full Mazda list has every Mazda we cut, from the Mazda 2 up to the BT-50. And if you are still choosing between seven-seaters, the Kia Sorento and Carnival guide and the Toyota Kluger guide cover two that have third-row pieces listed.
