Isuzu D-Max and MU-X Sun Shades: Picking the Windows
Every Isuzu order we have shipped since July has been door glass, and most of it has been the back seat. Two D-Max owners took the four-door set, one in Victoria and one in Queensland. A Queensland owner with a 2021 D-Max took the rear pair alone. Both MU-X orders were rear pairs as well, one for a 2016 wagon in Queensland and one for a 2025 in New South Wales.
That pattern fits the cars. A dual cab D-Max and an MU-X both put children and car seats behind the B-pillar, and that is the glass the afternoon sun comes through on the drive home. This post is about choosing the right pieces for each car. If you are still working out which generation you own, the Isuzu fitment list covers the changeover years in detail.

Four listings, priced the same
| Vehicle | Build years | Windows we cut | Product |
|---|---|---|---|
| D-Max (RT body) | 2015–2019 | Front doors, rear doors | D-Max 2015–2019 |
| D-Max (RG body) | 2021–2025 | Front doors, rear doors | D-Max 2021–2025 |
| MU-X (first generation) | 2016–2020 | Front doors, rear doors | MU-X 2016–2020 |
| MU-X (second generation) | 2021–2026 | Front doors, rear doors | MU-X 2021–2026 |
On all four, the front pair is $49.99, the rear pair is $59.99 and the four doors together are $99.99. Buying all four saves $9.99 over buying the pairs separately. The model pages for the D-Max and the MU-X list the same products.
A 2020 D-Max sits between our two ute listings, because the RG body arrived here partway through that year. A 2021 MU-X can be either wagon for the same reason. In both cases the build month on the compliance plate decides it, and the generation guide shows where to find it.
Telling the bodies apart at the rear door
If the plate is hard to read, open a rear door. Our workshop photos show a clear difference in the door cards, though trim colours vary by grade and market, so go by shape rather than colour.
On the older RT D-Max, a straight silver bar runs across the door card at handle height, and the inner handle sits at its front end. At the back of the window opening there is a narrow black trim strip, and the shade stops against it.

On the RG, the inner handle sits in a chrome surround, and a thin chrome line runs along the door card from it. The rear door glass ends at a wider black filler panel in the rear corner of the frame. Our shade covers the glass up to that panel and leaves the panel alone, since there is nothing behind it to shade.
The two D-Max sets are not interchangeable. The door glass is a different shape, so a set cut for one body will leave gaps or fail to sit in the other.
Work ute: start with the fronts
Most utes we see do two jobs. During the week the ute is parked on site or at the depot from early morning, often facing whichever way the job allowed, and the driver gets back into it several times a day. The two front door windows are what heat the steering wheel and the driver's seat while it sits there, so on a ute that rarely carries passengers, the front pair is the first piece to buy.
Front shades go up when the ute is parked. Take them down before you drive. Australian road rules expect the driver to have a clear view through the front side windows, and our guide to the shade laws sets out what is allowed state by state. The rear door glass is different: shades can stay on those windows while you drive, which is why the rear pair is the piece most people leave fitted.
The set covers the four door windows and nothing else. The window in the back wall of the cab is not part of it, and there is no tray or canopy piece. If you run a canopy with side windows, those are outside what we cut.
Family ute: the rear pair, then the fronts
When the D-Max is the family car on weekends, the order flips. The rear seats are where the kids sit, and a child seat bolted behind the driver gets the full force of a western sun on the way home from sport. Start with the rear pair at $59.99. Our guide to which windows to shade explains why we suggest that pair first on almost every car.
Add the front pair later if you find you are using the ute for both. That is what the two four-door buyers did in one go. If you already know the ute sits outside all week and carries kids at the weekend, the four-door set at $99.99 is the cheaper way to get there.
The rear door pair only applies to a D-Max with rear doors. If yours is a cab without full rear doors, ask us before ordering, because these listings were cut on dual cab utes. The dual cab ute guide compares the D-Max with the other utes we cut.
MU-X: what the door set does and does not reach
The MU-X shares its ladder frame with the D-Max, but behind the front seats it is a wagon. After the rear doors comes a fixed pane of third-row glass on each side, and then the tailgate window.

Both MU-X listings cover the four doors only. We do not have a third-row piece or a tailgate panel for either generation. That leaves the third row in the sun on a seven-seat wagon. For the second row, though, which is where most families put their child seats, the rear door pair does the job. Both MU-X buyers this spring stopped there.
If you regularly fill the third row on long drives, tell us. Owner requests are how a third-row panel gets added to a listing, and the third-row and quarter-window guide lists the seven-seaters where we already cut that glass.
The 2021–2026 shade sits right inside the rear door frame and covers the glass edge to edge, as in the photo above. On the first-generation MU-X the rear door glass is a different shape, and the 2016–2020 set is cut to it. The two MU-X sets do not swap.
What we cannot help with yet
- D-Max before 2015 and MU-X before 2016. The bodies go back further than our listings, but the patterns have been confirmed against 2015-on and 2016-on cars. Send us your build year before ordering.
- A 2020 D-Max, until you have checked the build month.
- MU-X third row and tailgate, as above.
- The cab's rear window on the D-Max.
The 2021-on Mazda BT-50 shares its underpinnings with the D-Max, but we sell it under its own listings, and you should order by the badge on the tailgate.
If your car is on that list, the measuring app lets you send us the window shapes for a quote. For anything else, a photo of the rear door taken from outside is usually enough for us to confirm which set fits.
