Small Car Window Shades: Five Cars, by Year

Auto Sunshades Team

Most of these five cars come as a hatch and a sedan, and the two bodies get shaded differently. On the hatches, the tailgate glass is added more often than not: four of the seven hatch orders in our records included it, usually as the rear doors plus tailgate. The two City sedan orders were both the rear pair alone. A hatch's load area sits under that big rear glass, and a sedan's boot does not.

That split also matters for fitment. A hatch and a sedan of the same name are separate patterns, and so are the older and newer shapes. Here is how the listings line up.

Prices are the same across the table: $49.99 for the front pair, $59.99 for the rear pair, $99.99 for all four doors. Where there is a tailgate or rear windscreen panel it is $59.99 on its own, $108.99 with the rear doors, or $154.99 with all four doors. Sets not on the shelf are made to order.

The Toyota Yaris has enough hatch and sedan bodies to need its own page: see Toyota Yaris sun shades.

Mazda 2

The hatch listing is the current Mazda 2, the DJ, listed for 2016–2025 builds. It covers the doors and the tailgate glass, and the shade fits into the door frame. Both Mazda 2 orders in our records were for a DJ hatch, one a 2016 and one a 2022, and both were the rear doors with the tailgate, the $108.99 set. On a hatch where the boot is the shopping or the pram, that is a sensible place to stop.

The DJ went on sale here in late 2014, so a 2015 car is outside the listed years. If yours is a 2014 or 2015 DJ, send us a photo before ordering rather than assuming.

The gap is the older hatch. We have no listing for the DE Mazda 2, the 2007–2014 hatch. The two sedan listings are doors only: the 2016–2025 sedan is a separate pattern from the hatch, and the 2010–2015 listing is an older sedan. Neither fits a hatch. The Mazda 2 page has all three, and the Mazda list covers the rest of the range.

Kia Rio

The Rio hatch listing is the 2011–2017 car, the UB. It mounts magnetically and covers the doors and the tailgate. Both Rio orders were the rear pair on its own, one of them for a 2013 hatch.

The gap is the next Rio. We do not cut the 2017–2023 hatch, the YB, and the 2011–2017 set is not shaped for it. Because the change came in 2017, a 2017 Rio can be either body; the build month on the compliance plate settles it, and the guide to build dates and generations shows how to read it.

The Rio sedan needs more care. Its listing gives no build years, so we cannot tell you from the listing alone which sedan it fits. There is also a separate Rio sedan listing marked 2010, sold elsewhere as the Kia Pride. If you have a Rio sedan, send the year and a side photo before ordering. The Rio page and the Kia list have the other small Kias.

Hyundai i20

The i20 listing is the first i20, listed for 2008–2012 and cut for the five-door. The shade fits into the door frame, and the listing covers the doors and the tailgate. The one i20 order in our records, for a 2011 car, was the complete set.

The i20 Active 2013–2017 listing is the one to be careful with. It is listed as a likely fit rather than a confirmed one, and in Australia "Active" was also a trim name on the i20 itself. If your i20 is a 2013-on car, or a three-door, send us a photo before ordering. The Hyundai list covers the range.

Hyundai Getz

The Getz listing runs 2002–2011 and covers the doors and the tailgate; the shade fits into the door frame. The one Getz order was the rear doors with the tailgate, for a 2010 five-door. The set is cut for the five-door, so ask first if you have the three-door. The Getz page has the listing.

Honda City

The City has three listings, all sedans. The 2010–2014 set is doors only and mounts magnetically. The 2014–2020 and 2021–2025 sets fit into the door frame and add a panel for the rear windscreen. Both City orders were the rear pair, one for a 2010 car and one for a 2014.

That 2014 order is the year to watch: 2014 sits in two listings, so check the build month on the plate, or compare your car with the photos on each listing. The City page and the Honda list carry all three.

Ordering

On a hatch, decide whether the boot is used for anything that minds the sun; if it is, the $108.99 rear doors plus tailgate set is the one three of the seven hatch orders went for. On a sedan the rear pair covers what matters, and the rear windscreen panel on the newer City is optional. The guide to which windows to cover goes through the trade-offs. Two years straddle listings, a 2014 City and a 2017 Rio, so read the plate for those. For the 2007–2014 Mazda 2 hatch or the 2017-on Rio, which we do not cut, the measuring app gets you a quote.
